August Mix Song Reviews

These are the following songs I had to rate
(I will only post those that I played in the specific months mix)
Magic hasn’t required a rating just yet and Outkast Mighty “O” is a late pick up.
My definition of “late pickup” is when a song has been around for months but does not hit radio and other popular forms of media til much later.
In other words it was released months ago but only recently has become popular.
There has to be a better term for this, either I can’t remember or I just don’t know. Ha.
Overall the quality of music seems to be picking up. Hope you liked the new joints.

Rich Boy Throw Some D’s Interscope Records

All the other singles we received from this guy were super hot garbage, Pollow Da Don is a great producer and getting some real placement, that’s good. Real good.

Young HotRod Feat. Mary J. Blige Be Easy Interscope Records

Wow. Who handled this instrumental and who cloned 50 cent? Dude is ok but the lyrics are subpar especially on a monstrous raw hip hop beat as this has. He needs to step up his lyrical skill.

Fergie London Bridge Will.I.Am Music Group (A&M Records)

Pollow da don is making some noise, decent song the girls will love this, it is predictable but the instrumental provides a different feel. Strong single, very strong.

Obie Trice Jamaican Girl Interscope Records (SHADY)

I really dig this track. Put it on the mixtape and I’m already gettin inquiries about this joint. Great! Did Em really produce this or did he just put his name on it.

Talib Kweli LISTEN!!! Warner Bros. Records

That’s what I’m talking about, polk a dot Kwame handling the beat. Now I think the strings shouldn’t be in it, I know that one beat he did with Em he probably feels he ought to put strings in all additional beats but it doesn’t sound right. Either way this shows Talib definately doesn’t need Hi-Tek beats anymore, Talib can rock on anything still sound relevant and also put down that real hip hop.

The PACK Vans JIVE Records

Cool for the westcoast I’ve had this track on mp3 for like 6 months. One of my students introduced me to it, if we got it sooner the rating would be higher. I’m tired of this song.

Pharrell Feat. Kanyet West Number ONE Interscope Records

Nothing special to me, but it’s cool and outpaces much of the shitty music out. One thing that I notice is the throwback feel and replay of old 70’s joints it’s all good though no different from sampling.

Paris Hilton Turn It Up Warner Bros. Records

Yea I gave it a 4. People wonder why I put this on the mixtape but then they hear it and they are like oh damn. I’m like yea shut your mouth.

Justin Timberlake Sexy Back JIVE Records

He sounds too much like Khalfani White. But Khal is the shit so I guess it’s a good thing. He definately needed to come with a new sound this is working. I’m feeling it. Timba switching it up too he did swear to going Pop and he’s doing a great job. Keep it up.

Ciara Feat. Chamillionaire Get UP La Face Records

Jazze Pha taking Baambaataa. Givin that electro funk new style, Ciara I’m feeling is becoming a reincarnation of Aaliyah. AND I DON’T THINK THAT’S BAD AT ALL. R.I.P. Baby Girl we all miss you!

Some of my students break my heart.
They aren’t dumb but oh do they love to play the stereotypical african american, I wonder how things are at home. They probably have family that do not care about their well being. As much as I feel I need to do something about it I really can’t after a certain age it’s really on them and how they choose to contribute to society.
